Ruby with her pack

The Four Haunted Dogs.  Nakoma (black GSD), Pretzel (mini doxie), Baker (pitbull) and of course Ruby!  That picture of them walking together is before the cancer came and took her leg.  Just wanted you guys to see the pack together.

Ruby is doing well this morning.  I haven’t seen much seepage yet today.

Ruby is beautiful

She was well when I arrived home tonight, but now I’m seeing more seepage again.  same as last night sort of.  This is how it absorbs in her fur.  She isn’t dripping, but when she lays on her side it just goes into the fur.  It can be mostly clear, but show color at times.  I put her in the “rest room” by herself to just heal all day while I worked.  She was not dripping or seeping too much this morning.  Not like she had the wet fur last night, that was weird.  tonight when I got home from work, she hopped on the couch after she ate her meal and I saw a couple drops spit out on her belly of wear the stitches were ripped.  Same spot as last night and for the last week.  It was reddish/pinkish.  Just definitely colored, but not deep blood red or nothing.  She also dripped this color last night on her belly as she would lay on her side.   She is laying beside me on the couch as I type, her cone head laying on top of my feet.

Her appt with the Vet is 9:00 pm Monday evening.  I will leave her there overnight and pick her up Tuesday evening… unless of course there become complications with extraction of the staples on the incision line or something that requires more Vet attention… which then I would think that the Vet will keep her longer to help get her thru this, possibly taking her back to Ft. Wayne.

I enjoy coming to this blog spot to vent my frustrations and anxieties about what we are going thru.  I also enjoy the kind words and knowledge that this space and site provides!  Ruby and I need to be here to share this chapter of her life.

Ruby is doing great other than the stupid seepage still.  She is eating, drinking, pooping, peeing, happy, skipping and howling.  Right now she is snoring.  She did not whimper when I cleaned her tonight.

Friday night Ruby

seems to be better so far, other than the stitch she ripped.  I called the Vet and spoke to her on the phone.  I told her about Ruby still trying to get to the stitches and that she is able to reach them even with the cone on.  She told me I might need to go and get a different collar to try so she wouldn’t get at them.  I’m actually going to try and stick with the cone and buy some boxer shorts for her tomorrow.   I see one spot dripping tonight.  I’ve cleaned it a couple times, it alarmed me a little because it was more red looking or darker pink.   It is the spot where she ripped the stitch.  The Vet said that she might have to knock her out on Monday and restitch any area that isn’t healed.   Time will tell.  It’s going to be a long weekend.   Ruby seems to be in some pain and discomfort which she normally doesn’t show.  I’m watching her close and gave her a tramadol.  fingers crossed!

Ruby incision day 23 healing

I took some pictures last night of Ruby’s incision.  You can see where it is still having seepage.  In the middle and down at the bottom.  She had the three new staples put in at the bottom and the middle is where she ripped the stitch out.  It is a little off color in the pics, but I promise she is not dripping green goo.  It’s clear and slimy.  She is still on Clavamox and that is probably why it hasn’t gotten infected.  She has been on Clavamox off and on for the past two months.  She is resting without the cone on this morning before I leave for work today.  Such a good dog she is.

Ruby rips stitches

Day 22 post op, these stitches/staples have been in for too long Ruby says!  She did this a few days ago, but at times keeps trying to do more little by little.  You can see the slimy substance on the incision line of what is left of seepage.  She isn’t dripping anymore, but still shows fluid sometimes.  She can still get at her sutures even with the cone on.  She doesn’t do it all the time, but at times.  I have read where you can put boxer shorts on them to help cover it.  would that be better than a tshirt?  Not sure what to do and I have to work in a couple of hours through the night.  I do not think I have any boxer shorts here.  For the most part she does good about leaving them alone and I keep the cone on her pretty much all day/night.  I know stitches bother because I just had mine removed from my hand after nine days of being in and I couldn’t stand them either.  Poor Ruby.  She just wants to be normal again, for real.
