Ruby Update

Ruby is doing ok.  She is eating, drinking, peeing and pooping.  Jumps up on the bed.  I do notice that she lays down more after I take her out to the yard.  Laying down as in, stopping at the gate and laying or walking halfway to my door and laying down.  That is ok.  Her mind, eyes and spirit are still bright.  Sometimes she will show pain.  I considered putting her down tonight because I know that her tumors are growing and more are starting to pop up around her rump area.  I’m just not sure when the “right time” will be.  I know she will let me know when the time is right, so I’m kind of depending on her for that.  I just don’t want it to get to where I’m carrying her in to be put down or she starts to suffer a lot.  Just wanted to update though to let everyone know how she is.

  1. Vrom your description, it certainly sounds like Ruby srill has quality!

Bright eyes, alert, jumping up in her bed, eating pottying, etc, all good indicator s that she’s no suffering or having consistent pain to the point it takes away her enjoyment in her day to day life.

Rubynhas been through soooooo much, so many surgeries, so much time at the Vet, etc,. I’m sure that took a lot out of her and she’s not exactlynup for running a marathon. Obviously, she has other issues that staxk in top of everything else.

Is she active when she’s in the yard? Sounds like she’s still somewhat active but gets tired more easily? Does she take off running like she did in earlier videos or just prefers to take it slow and easy?

Anyway, she could be laying down before she comes in simply because she wants to sunbathe some more. I know from other pictures she likes laying in the sun 🙂

One thing you want to make sure is that her remaining rear leg doesn’t have a torn muscle or anything like that. Just wondering if her wanting to lay down is because of weakness in her back leg.

Just throwing everything out there to cover all the bases!

When she shows pain, is thst when she lays on her amp side? Because she is still eating good and seems bright and alert, it doesn’t sound like what pain she is having is interfering too much with her quality.

I CERTAINLY understand not wanting Ruby to suffer!! Absolutely understand that!

I’ll suggest one more time that you have a consult with Dr F, as there may be some things you can do to keep Ruby comfortable and slow down the growth of these things.

But if for no other resson, you can talk to him so he can give you signs to look for so you know if things start going downhill. He can tell you if it would simply mean she would stop eating for a seceral days in a row, looseinterest in going out in the yard, stopped jumping on the bed, etc.
He can let you know what to.look for so she doesn’t get to a point of suffering!

You can also ask Dr F if he would be willing to make house call when the time comes. I KNOW yriu do not want to take her back to that other Vet, no matter what!

Anuway, based on what you’ve said, Ruby doesn’t seem like she’s ready to give up yet!

As always, we’d love to see another picture of your sweet girl. She’s such a beauriful GSD! Love her ears! 🙂

    Love and hugs to all!

Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle and Frankie too!
