Ruby the complicated one

Ruby is in a lot of pain.  Yelping out at times.  She is resting on the couch, but my friend sent an enclosure home so I set it up in the living room and I will put her in there when I go to work.  I had to pay for the antibiotic for a few doses and her Vet will mail me more today from her office.  Clavamox still.  And tramadol for pain, again.  I already have some here at home, so I didn’t buy the pain meds.  They did charge me for the couple doses of antibiotics.  Ruby has a wrap on.  looks like shiny brand new staples underneath.  I can see the bottom part of the incision.  She get the wrap off tomorrow.  I either take her back to this other animal hospital and they will help or they said I could do it.  Regardless I will go to one of the Vets we know and have them help with it.  I hate that she is in pain.  She can not sit or lay on the stump without yelping out loud.   I wasn’t able to make it there early enough to talk with the Vet after the surgery.  She left me a voicemail on the phone.  Staples will remain for two weeks.  smh.

  1. I am not a vet but it really sounds like she needs something in addition to tramadol for the pain. Ask about adding a fentanyl patch or gabapentin to the mix. I have seen that alot around here–where dogs come home on a “cocktail” of pain meds that each work in a slightly different way to alleviate the pain. There is nothing worse than seeing your pup hurting!

  2. Awww…saeet Ruby. She’s home though and that’s good! I love that her buddy dog is checking on her.

And yes, ditto avout the pain meds. The Gabapentin and Tramadol work well together. Be sure and ask your regular Vet about adding the Gabapentin.
Gonna hop over t0 your next post!
