two days post surgery

Ruby got a blood transfusion yesterday.  Only 19% blood, day after the surgery.   She thinks that she is bleeding from the bone on this inside because she had to cut her up high.  Heavy bleeder.  They had a donor dog that donated the blood, no charge. The Vet would like to keep her an additional week until the staples come out, no charge. I told her that was ok with me. She offered to bring her to Anderson Monday so I could visit her, but I said not too and I will travel there on my day off next week to visit her. Amazingly strong Ruby is. You can’t even tell when she is dying. She is very alert and walked outside to potty today. The Vet told me that she really is such a good dog. Due to her bleeding though, she wants to keep her until the staples come out to prevent any kind of problems during this healing process.

  1. Okay…first off…RUBY IS LIVING!!! And Ruby obviously is a STRONG dog who plans on keeping on LIVING!!
I really don’t mean to keep asking questions, but here I go!

So in the update today (znd I sincerely hooe the clinic is updating you every day), has the vleeding stopped?? Has the transfusion turned everything back to “normal”?

Is Ruby eating, drinking, peeing, pooping?

Has the type of cancer been determined yet? Have you spoken with an Oncologist about follow-up treatment plans?

Are they managing her pain sufficiently? Do they say she seems “comfortable”? Well, as comfortable as anyone csn be after MAJOR SURGERY!

It’s lovely that the Vet offered to bring her to see you. I’m really, really glad that you are making arrangements to go see her soon. I think it will do her..and you…a world of good!!!

And wonderful charges are being waived….and, quite frankly, they should be!!

And one more thing. IF the Vet is confident the bleeding has stopped and she is stable, , maybe she could bring her to you Monday and you coukd take her home until it’s time to get her stitches out . Would that be anything you woud want to do?

Thanks so much for taking time to update! Don’t mean to be asking so many questions. We care and are cheering for this sweet girl!! 🙂

In the meantime, I hope you are getting some good rest and taking care of yourself!

    Lots of love and hugs

    1. She did say that Ruby went outside to go potty this morning and that she has ate her breakfast. She didn’t say that the bleeding stopped yet, only that they had to change her bandage yesterday and that she thinks she is bleeding from the bone where she had to cut the hip, high up. She did ask if I would let her stay until next weekend, which would be 9/9/17 maybe until she comes home. She wants to take the staples out first. I told her not to bring her on Monday, that I would drive there and visit Ruby. I didn’t want to get her too excited and chance something happening to her stump. Because I am low income the Vet suggested she remain there until the staples come out to ensure there would not be any more Vet bills due to this procedure. I’m not sure other than the fentanol patch what other medications she is one. I do not know if they are using Gabapentin. I will inquire next I call there. I do not know if they sent the leg off to test the tumor. I could not afford that. They might have just because it was a never seen before type situation. Given her age and how it erupted overnight to basketball size. It is soft tissue cancer from what Dr. Tobias told me. This whole entire situation is scare and new to me. I’m learning a lot since this all started… only a month ago. I call her my three thousand dollar Ruby now! That is how much I have spent in the past month with multiple surgeries to find out what it was and then to amputate.

  2. Okay..just re-read this. Saw Riby is alert, mobile and doing potty breaks! YAAAAAAAAAY FOR RUBY!! 🙂
