let freedom ring

The staples and stitches are finally out.  Yes she does have swelling around her bone.  Nothing to be concerned about as long as she is eating and drinking, which she is.   Since we arrived home she has smiled from ear to ear!  She is really happy.  She has the same expression on her face as she did when I visited her for the first time in Ft. Wayne, after the amputation took place.  I love that face.  I briefly took a couple pics of it, but she wasn’t cooperating the best and kept moving around, blurring them.  I will get some good ones when she settles back in.  I am supposed to keep the cone on her for a few more days, at least when I leave her alone.  (swelling around the bone)  I told her about it being hot and that was her answer.  I knew it didn’t look right.  I didn’t talk with her very long.

So for this swelling… what do you suggest I do for that, if anything?  I have inquired about a rehab specialist who is mobile from Indy, but I haven’t heard back yet from her.  I’m still going to be easy with her for the time being.

10917 Stitches to be removed

I don’t know if it is normal, but Ruby’s stump feels hot.  Kind of like the cancer tumor felt hot is what it reminds me of and it seems there might be a build up of fluid inside the stump, but I’m not a Vet and I do not know if I’m just being paranoid or what.  It almost seems like I can put my hand over this bulge.  Flashbacks to what it was like when this first occurred.  I guess the Vet will know tonight when I take her in to have the stitches taken out if it is normal or not.  I didn’t notice it like this before.  I’m venting and still worried.  I will update you all when we get home later tonight after these sutures are removed.

I took some pictures of her incision last night, but they are too big to post here.  I don’t know why that is.  Some pictures I’m able to post and others I can not.  I put them on her facebook page Ruby on three the celebrity GSD, if you would like to see them.  I will try to get a video and post it to Youtube then add it here.
