Ruby UPDATE! She is doing really well. The wound is seeping a bit and the Vet changed her bandage again today. I believe the Vet is falling in love with her. She was asking me her history and where I got her. I told her that she was a farm dog that was killing the cats and I rehomed her for my niece. She became a good Service Dog for me with my disability in the short time that I have had her (3 or 4 months) and that possibly she does not really care for men, she is more of a woman’s dog. She asked if she had ever been abused because she noticed she coward once when she corrected another dog by raising her voice. I said not to my knowledge, but she is leery of men. She did confirm with me to just leave her in the hospital this week and not bring her to visit me tomorrow in Anderson. I do not want to excite her too much and chance her ripping the incision. I said I would come to Ft. Wayne this week on one of my days off to see her instead. I think it’s easier for me to travel to her rather than uproot and bring her back here. Eating, hopping and alert. The girl is on the mend!!! She is also on Gabapentin, which is one of my MS medicines that I have used for Nerve Pain. No longer on IV’s though, which is good to hear. She has already figured out the Vets office and has her own huge yard to run there.
What wonderful news! Cheering on Ruby’s success and swift recovery!!

I have not been around for awhile and just read through all your posts. That is great that Ruby is on the mend!! So was it a soft tissue sarcoma then? My Travis (who was a rear leg amputee already) recently had surgery for a soft tissue sarcoma and then we did a local chemo treatment as follow up since we could not amputate another leg 🙂 Soft tissue sarcoma generally has a pretty good prognosis, especially if the tumor can be completely removed.
How old is Ruby? She is a beauty!! Once she gets her strength back and adjusts to life on three she should do great.
Looking forward to hearing more about Ruby’s recovery and your life together!

Ruby is 2 1/2 years old. She is still really young. Yes, it was the soft tissue sarcoma. She had to cut her high on her back hip, I believe she got it all out, but I will ask her the next we speak. The vets all say this was the best thing for her. She was just too young and lively to euthanize without regret. I truly thought it was her last day on earth last Monday when I took her in for her appointment. Knowing I didn’t have the necessary funding for the procedure. Even after raising $365 in funds thru gofundme campaign. The Vets made it possible for her to still get this surgery at a much more affordable rate. We have incurred so much expense due to this happening last month. July 15 is when this cancer announced itself, took us until middle of August to find out the results of the biopsy and last week they said it was definitely cancer. I promptly decided to have the leg removed. NEVER thought I would be here, at this point. I’m grateful that we are and she will live to tell her story. She is a beauty and the smartest dog I have ever known. Thank you for the support!
pictures and videos of her leg can be found on her new page on facebook called Ruby on three the celebrity.
YAY RUBY! We are so hoppy to hear this. You are getting terrific care and we have no doubt that you’ll be back to yourself in no time at all. I know your pack misses you but you’ll be back with them soon. What a day that will be!
Keep us posted and know that we are all cheering you on.
This is sooooooo good to hear this today!!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂 I, like everyone here, and like YOU, have been a little worried because of everything she has had to endure with the bleeding, delay in surgery, being away from you for so long, etc.
I actually have a vew tears of joy and HUGE relief knowing she is finally in the mend!! 🙂
I CANNOT wait to hear how things go when you get to visit her!! I really, really hope you’ll jave someone there who can video you and she together and take pictures! So excited for you!!
After the initial challenges with the Vet and Clinic AND surgery, it sounds like she is being well cared for and clearly adored!!
Yeah, Gabapentin is good stuff. She’s probably kn an a antibiotic and Rimadyl (or something similar) as well. You can ask her when you go see Ruby.
Just kne wuick thought. Would you be able to take her home when you visit and have her regular Vet take the stitches out lster? Or is it that she needs to extra attention at the clinic right now to keep things in check and moving forward?
I cannot stop grinning hearing how well Ruby is doing!!! I’m absolutely thrilled!!
Keep these WONDERFUL updates coming!!! We are all part of Ruby’s Fan Club now!!!
